Singapore Airlines Unveils New First and Business Class Cabins as Part of S$2 Billion Premium Upgrade

Singapore Airlines is rolling out brand-new onboard seats, dining options, and entertainment systems with a total investment exceeding S$2 billion (US$1.6 billion) as it seeks to keep pace with rival carriers worldwide.

The centerpiece of this upgrade is a new premium cabin product designed for long-haul routes, with the new seats set to be progressively installed on Airbus A350 long-range and ultra-long-range aircraft beginning in mid-2027.

First class seats will feature 32-inch 4K high-definition screens and Bang & Olufsen noise-cancelling headphones, while companions traveling together can opt for a double-bed configuration or a face-to-face dining layout.

Singapore Airlines says that when adjacent passengers are traveling as a pair, the first class seats can be converted into a face-to-face dining arrangement.

Business class seats will come equipped with 22-inch 4K displays, wireless charging, and Bluetooth audio connectivity.

Adjacent first class seats can be combined to form a double bed, which the airline describes as the largest double bed currently available on a commercial aircraft.

The cabin retrofit program for the A350 fleet comes against the backdrop of prolonged delivery delays for the Boeing (BA) 777-9. That aircraft was originally slated for delivery in 2021, but the timeline for Singapore Airlines to receive it remains uncertain.

Once the Boeing (BA) 777-9 is delivered and enters service with Singapore Airlines, the full suite of new cabin products will also be installed on that aircraft type.

Other cabins will receive minor upgrades as well: premium economy seat recline will be increased by an additional inch, while economy class will get new interior upholstery fabrics.

Both premium economy and economy cabins will feature new 4K seatback entertainment screens, though these new features for premium economy and economy will only appear on the upcoming Boeing (BA) 777-9 aircraft.

Singapore Airlines says the new business class seats will offer alternating rows with either connected or standalone layouts.

Speaking at a media briefing on November 4, Singapore Airlines commercial director Lee Lik Hsin said the decision to prioritize the A350 for the new cabin product was directly driven by the Boeing (BA) 777-9 delivery delays.

Boeing (BA) disclosed in its third-quarter earnings report released on October 29, 2025, that the 777-9 will not be delivered to customers until 2027 at the earliest; it remains unclear whether Singapore Airlines is the launch customer for the type.

When asked about delivery progress at the airline's full-year results briefing in May, Singapore Airlines chief operating officer Tan Kai Ping said: "This is a severely delayed program, and the 777-9 will not enter the Singapore Airlines fleet in the current financial year ending March 2027." He added: "Hopefully, it will be delivered in the next financial year."

The product upgrade announcement comes on the heels of Singapore Airlines winning the Skytrax 2026 World's Best Airline award, along with the title of World's Best Economy Class. However, it lost out to Qatar Airways in the business class category and to Air France in the first class category.

Earlier this year, Singapore Airlines announced that starting from the first quarter of 2027, it will roll out Starlink onboard Wi-Fi across nearly its entire Airbus fleet, with the exception of the A350 medium-range version, covering aircraft that account for roughly half of its current fleet.

In September, the airline unveiled an onboard dining upgrade plan: refreshed menus and beverages across all cabins, with premium cabins featuring bespoke tableware from French maker Christofle.

Singapore Airlines is also updating its first and business class amenity kits: first class will feature SISLEY skincare products, while business class will offer BYREDO. Business class passengers will receive an onboard sleep suit for the first time in the airline's history.

The fully flat bed measures 79 inches long and up to 24 inches wide. The partition between middle-row seats can be lowered to combine them into a companion double bed, making it convenient for passengers traveling together.

In addition, Singapore Airlines will invest S$130 million to refurbish its SilverKris lounges, creating an end-to-end premium experience for Suites and first class passengers that begins the moment they are dropped off at Singapore Changi Airport, including concierge service, priority immigration and security lanes, and buggy transfers.
