GrapheneOS Announces Partnership with Mainstream Android Manufacturers to Address Google Pixel Bootloader Lock Risk

Aug 17, 2025

GrapheneOS team revealed on Friday that they are collaborating with a mainstream Android device manufacturer (OEM) to provide official system support for some of the manufacturer's future devices. This move is reportedly in response to the potential risk of future Alphabet Pixel devices locking their bootloader, which would prevent users from flashing third-party ROM systems onto Pixel devices if they become locked.

The GrapheneOS team stated that their collaboration goal is to ensure that these partner manufacturers' devices can fully meet GrapheneOS's official requirements. Through partnerships with these manufacturers, GrapheneOS can continue to maintain secure hardware that meets their usage conditions in the future. The team has listed this collaboration as a high priority.

GrapheneOS is a privacy and security-focused AOSP de-Googled system that currently primarily targets Google Pixel phones and tablets, aiming to provide enhanced security and privacy protection features.
