Sharp Corp. has launched a pocket-sized intelligent companion called "Poketomo," designed to add more fun and companionship to users' daily lives. According to the company, "Poketomo" is a pocket-sized smart companion that can accompany users through daily moments, whether they are happy, excited, or feeling lonely, engaging in conversations throughout.

The first version of "Poketomo" draws inspiration from meerkats and is available in both robot and smartphone application formats, with an official launch scheduled for November this year.

"Poketomo" is powered by Sharp's proprietary artificial intelligence technology CE-LLM (Communication Edge - Large Language Model), providing users with personalized voice conversation experiences. Whether users want to share happy news, discuss hobbies, or simply need someone to talk to, "Poketomo" can meet these needs. It proactively initiates conversations to better understand users and provides encouragement when users feel down.

Additionally, "Poketomo" remembers conversation content with users, places they've visited, and things they've encountered. Over time, it becomes a more considerate and supportive companion for users.

The first version of "Poketomo" features a meerkat-inspired design. The robot version expresses happiness through rich body language and changes in abdominal light colors, including rainbow colors. Standing approximately 12 centimeters tall and weighing about 200 grams, its compact size allows it to fit easily in the palm of a hand, pocket, or be attached to a bag.

When the robot is not nearby or voice communication is inconvenient, users can engage in voice or text conversations with "Poketomo" through the smartphone application. Conversation content in the app is shared with the robot, ensuring consistent memory of shared experiences. Users can also choose to interact with "Poketomo" solely through the application.

Since August 1st, Sharp's official X account has begun serializing a manga featuring "Poketomo," telling the daily life story of protagonist Nanami living with "Poketomo."

Sharp Corp. will also exhibit "Poketomo" at the "Tokyo Toy Show 2025" held from August 28-31 at Tokyo Big Sight, where visitors will have the opportunity to experience conversations with "Poketomo" at the booth.

Pre-orders for the "Poketomo" robot will begin in phases starting immediately. The official online store price is 39,600 yen (approximately 1,929 yuan at current exchange rates), with a target of selling 100,000 units by 2027. Sales will be conducted through Sharp and home appliance retailer e-commerce websites.

A smartphone app featuring the same character as the robot will also be available starting in November, priced at 495 yen per month (approximately 24.1 yuan at current exchange rates), offering voice or text conversation experiences.
