On April 9, TENCENT released its 2025 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) report. The report noted that MSCI, an international rating agency, has raised TENCENT's ESG rating from BBB to A.
In the area of environmental protection, TENCENT is steadily advancing toward its carbon neutrality goal for 2030. Despite increased energy demands from AI in 2025, the company maintained its carbon reduction progress through measures such as transitioning to green power, improving energy efficiency, and reducing supply chain emissions. For example, the proportion of green electricity used in TENCENT's self-operated data centers rose significantly from 49.8% in 2024 to 82.9%, with a target to reach 100% by 2026.
At the same time, TENCENT is supporting the broader societal shift toward green and low-carbon development. Its "Carbon Quest Initiative" continues to incubate innovative low-carbon technologies, expanding the scope of its second-phase project globally. The initiative received over 600 applications from 54 countries and regions worldwide. Selected teams will receive funding to carry out technology pilot projects.
TENCENT also unveiled its "Responsible AI Principles" in the report, covering five dimensions: value guidance, safety capability building, risk response mechanisms, legal compliance assurance, and collaborative industry standards. TENCENT's Hunyuan large model, AI product portfolio, and business applications will all explore responsible innovation under these principles.
In 2025, during its 11th consecutive annual "99 Giving Day," TENCENT attracted public participation in more than 530 million charitable activities, including donations, step donations, book donations, blood donations, and volunteer services. As of the end of last year, TENCENT's charity platform had recorded over 1.9 billion user donations, supported 136,000 fundraising projects, and raised more than 37.1 billion yuan in total.
TENCENT continues to invest in areas such as fundamental scientific research, cultural heritage preservation, and improving social emergency response capabilities. Programs like the Science Exploration Award and the New Cornerstone Investigator Project have funded over 430 outstanding scientists to date. For cultural heritage sites such as the Dunhuang Library Cave, Western Xia Mausoleums, and Oracle Bone Script, TENCENT has utilized AI, 3D modeling, and game engine technologies to aid in their protection and transmission. Following its launch on WeChat, the national earthquake early warning mini-program was introduced on QQ last year, with more than 35 million users having activated the alert feature.
