The latest edition of the Top 1000 World Banks ranking for 2026 has been released.
Seven Chinese banks have secured positions within the top ten of the list. Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), China Construction Bank (CCB), Agricultural Bank of China (ABC), and Bank of China (BOC) firmly hold the top four global positions. Bank of Communications, China Merchants Bank, and Postal Savings Bank of China (PSBC) are ranked 7th, 9th, and 10th, respectively.
Other Chinese institutions ranked within the top 100 include Industrial Bank Co., Ltd. (15th), China CITIC Bank (16th), Shanghai Pudong Development Bank (18th), China Minsheng Bank (21st), China Everbright Bank (29th), Ping An Bank (33rd), Huaxia Bank (45th), Bank of Beijing (49th), Bank of Jiangsu (51st), China Guangfa Bank (58th), Bank of Shanghai (70th), Bank of Ningbo (73rd), Bank of Nanjing (84th), China Zheshang Bank (85th), and Bank of Hangzhou (100th).
The ranking, which has been published annually since 1970, is considered a key benchmark for assessing the overall strength of banks worldwide. It is primarily based on critical metrics such as Tier 1 capital, offering a significant perspective on trends and developments within the global banking industry.
