Lululemon Early Black Friday Sales Seen Pressuring Margins -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
Nov 19

1433 ET - Lululemon kicked off its Black Friday selling season with an early access sale three days ahead of last year's early sale, a move that chases traffic but could add pressure to margins, Jefferies analysts say in a note. "This earlier start suggests the discounting period could be longer, and potentially deeper, than last year," the analysts say. Lululemon's underlying fundamentals also remain weak, with still elevated inventory levels and markdowns on its site, they say. "With pressure building, we expect earnings revisions to swing sharply negative vs consensus," they say, reiterating their underperform rating on the stock. (kelly.cloonan@wsj.com)
