Cue Biopharma (CUE) said Sunday a phase 2 trial of its CUE-221 in China met its primary endpoint in certain patients with moderate-to-severe chronic spontaneous urticaria, a skin condition.

The primary endpoint, the percentage of patients with no hives at week 12, was met at all dose levels in a dose-responsive manner, the company said. It also said that the highest dose met the key secondary endpoint of complete resolution of hives at week 12.

The benefit was also maintained for up to 12 weeks after treatment ended, with the response peaking at week 22, the company said.

Cue Biopharma enrolled 145 patients in the study and tested three doses of the drug candidate over 16 weeks, followed by a 20-week follow-up.

Cue said it plans to rapidly begin a phase 2/3 study in and continue development of CUE-221 in food allergy.
