印度初级铜生产商协会（Indian Primary Copper Producers Association）主席罗希特·帕塔克（Rohit Pathak）周三表示，该协会正与政府进行谈判，希望将一系列铜产品的商品及服务税（GST）从18%降至5%。他表示，这一政策调整有望释放目前因缴纳税款而被占用的高达36亿美元的资金。
今年，铜价屡创历史新高，本月在伦敦金属交易所（LME）的铜价已攀升至每吨14，700美元以上。这一价格飙升加剧了印度的成本压力。自2018年韦丹塔有限公司（Vedanta Ltd．）旗下的斯特里特（Sterlite）冶炼厂关闭以来，印度一直高度依赖铜进口。
