盖茨在即将于本周末播出的美国全国广播公司（NBC）《与新闻界对话》（Meet the Press）节目采访片段中表示：
“AI确实足够强大，能够引发导致……你知道的，造成10亿人死亡的事件。历史上从未出现过一种武器，能像坏人与最新AI工具相结合那样强大。”
随着技术的快速迭代，硅谷对AI可能带来毁灭性灾难的警告不断升级。
本月早些时候，Anthropic公司的普通员工Jacob Coxon辞去工作，并指责他的前雇主——Anthropic和 OpenAI——通过“加速冲向超智能AI”来“拿我们的生命作赌注”。
另一位Anthropic员工表示，他认为在未来十年内AI灭绝全人类的概率高于10%。
这些言论引发了主流社会对该领域长期存在且具争议性话题的关注，促使公众呼吁该行业采取更多措施来保障其技术的安全。
Anthropic 首席执行官Dario Amodei此后呼吁放缓AI的开发进度，这一提议迅速得到了OpenAI首席执行官Sam Altman和马斯克等同行支持。
在采访中，盖茨表示行业自律是远远不够的。
“需要执法部门和政治家参与到讨论中来，明确安全保障和监管措施的形式，而且这必须是一项强制性要求。”
盖茨此前曾在一篇8月发表的文章中指出，不良分子可能会利用日益强大的AI工具发起网络攻击、诈骗、散布虚假信息，并对医院、金融机构、电网和政府系统造成其他形式的大规模破坏。
