McKesson posted higher second-quarter profit, led by sales growth from its oncology and multispecialty segments, and again raised its adjusted profit outlook for the year.
The Irving, Texas-based pharmaceutical distributor on Wednesday reported a profit of $1.22 billion, or $10.44 a share, compared with $1.11 billion, or $8.92 a share, a year earlier.
Adjusted earnings were $11.68 a share. Analysts polled by FactSet expected $10.72.
Revenue rose 8% to $110.96 billion, topping the nearly $109.9 billion expected by analysts.
The growth was driven by its oncology and multispecialty segment, with revenue up 24%, which the company attributed to growth in provider solutions and specialty distribution.
Revenue also rose 6% in its North American pharmaceutical segment, its largest, due to increased prescription transaction volumes, which was partially offset by lower constributions from branded pharmaceuticals.
The company now expects adjusted per-share earnings of $45.60 to $46.40, up from its prior rage from $44.20 to $45.
The results come after a busy few months on the deal front for McKesson.
In August, McKesson struck a deal to buy Precision Medicine group, which provides clinical research and biopharma commercialization services, for $2.25 billion.
Last month, the company, along with CD&R, agreed to buy Option Care Health, which offers infusion therapy and services to patients at home, for about $5.8 billion, inclduing debt.
The deal, expected to close in the first half of next year, is part of McKesson's long-term strategy to expand access to therapies across the care continuum.
