路透社伦敦11月4日 - 这家专注于科技领域的风险投资公司周三表示，红杉资本将关闭其伦敦办事处，且将有数名员工离职。
这一决定对伦敦及英国通过吸引更多资金支持欧洲初创企业、从而打造更庞大的本地科技和人工智能产业的努力来说，是一个挫折。
“这与团队无关——他们非常出色。我们只是认为没有必要在当地设立办事处，”该公司在一份声明中表示。“我们相信，欧洲将继续涌现出杰出的创始人与企业，而我们也能继续从位于湾区的大本营为他们提供世界级支持。”
尽管美国在人工智能相关融资领域占据主导地位，英国仍一直试图将自身定位为科技和人工智能企业蓬勃发展的基地。许多在欧洲起步的科技公司，为加速发展，后来都转而前往美国寻求投资者并取得成功。
红杉资本（Sequoia）作为最知名的风险投资公司之一，于1972年在加利福尼亚州成立，因早期投资苹果公司（AAPL.O）和爱彼迎（Airbnb ABNB.O）等企业而闻名。
红杉资本在声明中表示，历经20年的扩张（包括国际扩张）已形成层级结构，公司希望通过内部调整来扁平化组织架构。
2024年，该公司将其中国及印度/东南亚业务 (link) 分拆为两家独立公司，各自以自有品牌运营。
红杉资本周三在声明中还表示，已募集约100亿美元的新资金，但未透露具体时间段。
