Stock Track | UVXY Surges 5.02% as Market Volatility Spikes Amid Tariff Concerns

The ProShares Ultra VIX Short-Term Futures ETF (UVXY) soared 5.02% in the pre-market session on Friday, reflecting heightened market volatility and investor concerns. The surge in UVXY, which tracks short-term VIX futures, comes on the heels of a turbulent week in the stock market triggered by escalating trade tensions and tariff threats.

Market analysts point to a sharp drop in the S&P 500 index earlier in the week, which generated a new McMillan volatility band (MVB) sell signal. The CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) spiked to 22.44 during this period, before settling at 19.03. This volatility spike, coupled with the VIX closing above its 200-day moving average for two consecutive days, has fueled demand for volatility-linked products like UVXY.

Investors are closely watching key support levels in the S&P 500, with particular attention to the 6,500 to 6,550 range. A breach below these levels could potentially trigger a more bearish scenario, further benefiting volatility-tracking ETFs. As market participants navigate through this period of uncertainty, UVXY's performance serves as a barometer for short-term market anxiety and hedging activity.
