Following his departure from DingTalk amid internal turmoil, the platform's founder, Wuzhao (Chen Hang), has officially confirmed his next career move. Today, Hong Kong-listed BAIWANG CO (06657.HK) announced that its extraordinary general meeting had passed a resolution with 100% approval to appoint Chen Hang as a non-executive director, effective immediately after the meeting concluded.

The 49-year-old Chen brings over two decades of experience in enterprise software and AI-driven digital management. As the founder of DingTalk, he led product development from 2014 to 2020 and returned as CEO from March 2025 to June 2026. His career spans roles at HP Japan and Alibaba, where he managed key projects like Yitao and Laiwang, and later founded a startup focused on B2B collaboration and enterprise AI solutions. He has extensive hands-on experience in government-enterprise digitalization and deploying large language models in corporate settings.

According to the announcement, Chen's term will last until the current board's tenure expires, with eligibility for re-election. His annual compensation is set at 100,000 RMB, with no additional meeting allowances. This salary pales in comparison to his previous remuneration at DingTalk.

Earlier reports had suggested that Wuzhao had rejoined Alibaba, with his reporting line placed under the Qianwen Office Business Unit, maintaining his previous rank and benefits. However, Alibaba quickly denied these claims. This announcement from BAIWANG CO marks the official confirmation of his new role, though it has left many observers puzzled: as a DingTalk founder who has already achieved financial independence, why would Chen transition from DingTalk CEO to a non-executive director at BAIWANG for a mere 100,000 RMB annual salary?

In addition to Chen, another former DingTalk vice president, Wang Qiangyu, has also joined BAIWANG CO. Wang served at Alibaba from 2017 to 2020, holding the position of DingTalk vice president and head of the New Laiwang Business Unit. Chronologically, Chen and Wang were colleagues at DingTalk. Wang also brings AI entrepreneurship experience, having founded a life sciences technology company in Hangzhou, which launched the "Doukou Large Model" in July 2025 and unveiled China's first gynecology-specific large model that same year, reportedly passing a senior professional title examination.

Founded in 2015, BAIWANG CO positions itself as an enterprise leveraging real transaction data and tax expertise, using AI to drive business decisions and intelligent execution. The company describes itself as an "enterprise decision-making large model and tax token factory," operating across three core business segments: compliance technology, fintech, and credit technology. Since its inception, it has served over 3,000 enterprise group clients, with coverage extending to approximately 33.45 million growth-stage customers. Its overseas tax compliance and e-invoicing platform, Tax-Swift, spans more than 50 countries and regions, supporting compliant document generation, tax filing preparation, and tax risk identification.

Some observers speculate whether BAIWANG CO is leveraging the "Wuzhao plus Wang Qiangyu" pairing to capitalize on the AI trend, potentially shifting its image from selling tax software to selling tax-specific AI capabilities.
