Meituan held its 2026 management communication meeting on the afternoon of March 13. During the event, CEO Wang Xing shared his views on the development of the grocery retail industry, international expansion, and artificial intelligence. When discussing expectations for company managers, Wang Xing stated that he wants to focus on more specific points, emphasizing that everyone should strive to "reduce hierarchical formality," starting with himself.

"For example, everyone is used to calling me 'Brother Xing.' I think this is a clear example of such formality, even though this habit actually started back in 1997," Wang Xing explained.

It is understood that "Brother Xing" is an internal nickname for Wang Xing at Meituan, originating from his university days. Wang Xing also shared the background of the name: "Because I shared a dorm with Old Wang (Note: Meituan co-founder Wang Huiwen), and there were two people surnamed Wang in the dorm. He is a few months older than me, so from the time we started university in 1997, he was called Old Wang, and I was called Brother Xing. It has continued since then."

"Therefore, I have a very specific proposal: I hope everyone within the company will address each other directly by their full names, without using 'Brother' titles. Starting with me, from this moment on, please don’t call me Brother Xing anymore—just call me Wang Xing. I don’t have an English name, even though I studied in the United States. Let’s start with ourselves to embrace new trends and new ways of thinking," Wang Xing added.
