Huangnan Prefecture Sees Completion of Integrated Solar and Storage Facility

On June 30th, with the official grid connection of the energy storage system at the 35kV Jianzha Solar-Plus-Storage Power Station, the supporting 45MW/90MWh energy storage project for the 300,000 kW photovoltaic development in Huangnan Prefecture, constructed by the SPIC Yellow River Upstream Hydropower Development Co., Ltd., was successfully completed. This marks the smooth implementation of the first integrated solar-plus-storage project built by the company in the Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. Consequently, the company's total installed energy storage capacity has risen to 918MW/2758.23MWh.

The project's energy storage system employs advanced lithium iron phosphate battery technology. The entire station comprises 18 subsystems, each rated at 2.5MW/5MWh. Every subsystem is equipped with two battery containers and one Power Conversion System (PCS) container, all utilizing prefabricated containerized modules that were hoisted into position on-site. This approach simplifies installation procedures, shortens the construction timeline, and effectively enhances the equipment's environmental adaptability, making the "storage" and "release" of green electricity more flexible and efficient.

Regarding the grid connection scheme, the company innovatively adopted a centralized AC-side configuration. All energy storage units are concentrated within the switchyard for unified voltage step-up and grid connection, effectively avoiding issues such as dispersed sub-arrays and lengthy control links associated with distributed layouts. Zhao Rui, Deputy Director of the Solar-Plus-Storage Project Management Department at the New Energy Construction Branch, explained, "The centralized scheme features shorter control links and faster response speeds. The power regulation accuracy fully meets the requirements of provincial and regional dispatch centers, and it also eliminates delays caused by instructions being relayed through multiple sub-arrays."

Since the project's commencement on March 18th, the company's construction team adopted a "sprint from day one" approach, advancing work on foundation construction, module hoisting, electrical connections, individual unit debugging, and full-station integrated commissioning. Han Menglong, Electrical Primary System Supervisor at the New Energy Construction Branch, stated, "From groundbreaking to grid connection took just over three months. All performance indicators meet the design requirements, and all tests were passed in a single attempt, laying a solid foundation for the successful grid integration of the project."

It is reported that once operational, this energy storage power station is expected to deliver approximately 15.0057 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually. This is equivalent to saving about 4,525.72 tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 12,038.4 tons. As a supporting storage facility for the 300,000 kW photovoltaic power station in Huangnan Prefecture, the project can effectively reduce solar power curtailment rates. It stores excess solar power generated during midday peaks and releases it during evening demand peaks. This not only provides flexible and reliable peak-shaving support for the regional power grid but also continuously enhances the operational revenue of the photovoltaic project. Furthermore, it will inject substantial energy storage momentum into Qinghai Province's efforts to achieve high-proportion clean energy consumption and build a new-type power system.
