Recently, the first batch of bridge cable wire products from Shougang Shuigang Kimco Company was officially shipped, marking the addition of a "new member" to Shougang Shuigang's portfolio of high-end products and representing a new breakthrough in the application of special steel. Bridge cable wire is hailed as the "steel strings" of modern bridges, serving as the core material for critical components such as the main cables of suspension bridges and the stay cables of cable-stayed bridges; it must withstand extreme tensile forces and long-term challenges from complex environments, demanding stringent standards for material strength, toughness, and durability. To deepen product structure upgrades and expand into high-end market spaces, Kimco Company focused on the needs of bridge construction, and starting from October 15, 2025, organized its product R&D team to systematically tackle challenges related to material composition, microstructure, and mechanical properties. Through theoretical simulation, experimental verification, product debugging, and trial production, the target product—bridge cable wire with a diameter specification of 7.0 mm and a strength grade of 1860 MPa—was successfully developed by November 15. Comprehensive testing by authoritative inspection agencies and relevant user units confirmed that all performance indicators of the product meet or even exceed national standards and customer requirements, demonstrating its maturity for market launch and laying a solid foundation for the subsequent development of products with even higher strength grades. The successful R&D, production, and inaugural shipment of the bridge cable wire signify a solid step forward for Shougang Shuigang in its capability to serve major national infrastructure construction projects, contributing robust steel power through innovative technology and reliable quality to make China's bridges safer, more durable, and lighter.
