CSPC Pharma has officially started a Phase I clinical study (Protocol: SYH2056-001) in China to assess SYH2056 tablets, a proprietary small-molecule 5-HT2A partial agonist developed for the treatment of depression.

The first-in-human trial focuses on a single oral dose in healthy Chinese participants, aiming to determine safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetic characteristics and potential food effects. Recruitment and screening of volunteers are currently in progress.

Pre-clinical data indicate that SYH2056 preserves synaptic neuronal plasticity and delivers antidepressant efficacy equal to or exceeding that of comparable candidates in various animal models. Studies also suggest relatively low risks of off-target activity, hallucination and drug dependence.

The Board, chaired by Mr Cai Dong Chen, disclosed the initiation on 1 September 2026.
