On October 11, regarding market rumors about the "upcoming discontinuation of Song PLUS," BYD Company Limited representatives responded: "The Sealion 06 is the successor model to Song PLUS, and (discontinuing Song PLUS) represents a normal product transition." This indicates that the "national SUV" that once achieved sales records of 1.57 million units will gradually phase out from the domestic market, potentially completing the final piece of BYD Company Limited's Ocean network "marine life + numerical" naming system.
In fact, the positioning of Song PLUS has been a historical legacy issue for BYD Company Limited. Despite carrying the "Song" name from the Dynasty series, Song PLUS has been sold through the Ocean network.
According to public information, BYD Company Limited's brand consists of two major series: Dynasty network and Ocean network. The Dynasty series began in 2012, subsequently launching the Qin, Tang, Song, Yuan, and Han series. The Ocean network series began in late 2021, successively introducing models such as Seagull and Dolphin.
In 2021, to fill the product lineup during the early establishment of the Ocean network, Song PLUS DM-i was incorporated into the Ocean network. Leveraging the market appeal of the Song family, Song PLUS quickly became the SUV sales champion within the Ocean network. Driven by this success, BYD Company Limited's Ocean network grew rapidly. As of May this year, the Ocean network's cumulative sales have reached 4.85 million units, with Dolphin achieving global sales exceeding 850,000 units and Song PLUS surpassing 1.57 million units globally.
However, in July this year, BYD Company Limited officially launched the Sealion 06 DM-i/EV, featuring standard God's Eye C-intelligent driving assistance tri-camera version (DiPilot100) and standard Yunni-C intelligent damping body control system. The vehicle's price range of 139,800 yuan to 163,800 yuan significantly overlaps with Song PLUS.
Notably, Zhang Zhuo, General Manager of BYD Company Limited's Ocean Network Sales Division, previously stated publicly that Song PLUS, as the sales backbone and important IP of the Ocean network, would not be renamed, its IP would not be changed, and it would not switch sales networks, continuing to be sold through the Ocean network with ongoing upgrades and iterations.
