National Bureau of Statistics data reveals that China's population aged 60 and above reached 310 million in 2024, accounting for 22% of the total population. Aligning with the shifting demands of elderly care from basic survival to developmental and lifestyle needs, JD.com's Home Appliances & Furnishings division recently launched its "Warm Sun Initiative" at a nursing home in Yangliuxue Town, Binzhou, Shandong.
The program implemented meticulous age-friendly renovations, including anti-slip flooring in bathrooms and shower areas, enhancing safety for elderly residents. JD.com has expanded its senior-friendly product offerings to 87 categories, featuring over 3,000 brands and more than 500,000 specialized items.
The initiative addresses critical aging-related challenges, including fall prevention for over 40 million elderly who suffer injuries annually from slips. The upgrades coincide with China's Double Ninth Festival, a traditional holiday honoring seniors.
