The Lion's River Channel project, a crucial transportation artery in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, achieved a significant construction milestone on September 12th. Engineers successfully completed the precise closure of the steel truss bridge crossing the Xiqiao Waterway by assembling all 11 prefabricated segments.

This ambitious project represents the third super-large cross-river passage in the Greater Bay Area, following the completion of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Channel. Stretching approximately 35 kilometers, it is designed as a double-deck passageway connecting Nansha District in Guangzhou with the towns of Humen and Shatian in Dongguan. The main structure is comprised of the cross-river main bridge, the Lion's River Bridge, and land approach sections on both banks.

The Xiqiao Waterway Steel Truss Bridge is a marvel of engineering, with a main span of 165 meters, making it the longest single-span double-deck steel truss bridge in China. Its design accommodates Class II inland waterway navigation standards. The bridge features an impressive width of 41 meters and a truss height of about 15 meters. The entire steel structure weighs 8,100 tons and is divided into 11 sections, much like giant building blocks, which were intelligently prefabricated in factories and transported to the site for precise assembly.

Once operational, this new passage will horizontally connect the three major metropolitan circles within the Greater Bay Area, extending its reach to the eastern and western regions of Guangdong. This will further densify the "Golden Inner Bay" transportation network and inject strong momentum for the area's integrated and coordinated development.
