A U.S. court has ordered utility company DTE Energy Co and its subsidiary to pay $100 million and comply with the Clean Air Act due to violations at a coke facility in Zug Island, Michigan. The U.S. Department of Justice announced on Tuesday that the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan stated in a press release that the company must apply for a permit within 250 days under the New Source Review program of the Clean Air Act. The application materials are required to include stringent pollution control recommendations. DTE Energy Co stated that it will appeal the ruling. A company spokesperson said in a statement, "We remain committed to operating in compliance and have been operating within the scope of our valid original state permit—both now and during the relevant period."
