On February 9th, the Zhejiang Provincial Conference on Building a First-Class Innovation Ecosystem and Creating the Most Competitive Business Environment was held in Hangzhou. During the conference, a total of 305 awards for the 2024 Zhejiang Provincial Science and Technology Awards were presented. Among them, 42 projects received first prizes, 59 were awarded second prizes, and 125 received third prizes. Wang Xingxing, founder of Unitree Robotics, led the project titled "Quadruped Robot Based on Deep Reinforcement Learning Technology," which was honored with a second prize.
Young scientists have achieved new breakthroughs in taking leading roles. Sixteen first prizes were awarded to projects led by individuals born in the 1980s, including two first prizes led by post-90s researchers for the first time. This reflects Zhejiang Province's ongoing support for young talent engaged in scientific and technological innovation, particularly in basic research.
Wang Xingxing, born in 1990, founded Unitree Robotics in August 2016. The company, known as one of the "Hangzhou Six Little Dragons," has a registered capital of approximately 364 million RMB and focuses on the research, development, and sales of intelligent robots, as well as the manufacturing of industrial robots.
Unitree Robotics recently announced that it has become the robotic partner for the 2026 CCTV Spring Festival Gala. This marks the company's third collaboration with the event, following performances by robotic oxen in 2021 and humanoid robots in 2025.
In addition to humanoid robots, quadruped robots represent a significant business segment for Unitree Robotics. Wang Xingxing previously mentioned that he began developing quadruped robots during his master's studies in 2013. With an initial investment of 10,000 to 20,000 RMB, he earned his first significant income by winning a second prize in a competition, which came with an 80,000 RMB award.
