PayPal, the payments giant, announced a partnership with artificial intelligence company Anthropic on Wednesday. The collaboration introduces free AI training courses and automation tools targeted at small businesses, aiming to bridge the skill gap in AI adoption for small merchants.
Training Courses: Addressing the AI Skills Gap Survey data indicates that 82% of small businesses believe adopting AI technology is crucial for maintaining competitiveness, yet 73% report lacking the necessary tools or training. To address this, the two companies have launched a free online course titled "AI Fluency for Small Business." The course consists of nine lessons, integrating practical video content from AI researchers and small business owners, and employs an interactive self-learning model. Participants receive a certificate of completion upon finishing the course. This initiative is a key component of PayPal's goal to support small businesses in enhancing their digital economy skills.
AI Automation Assistant Anthropic has simultaneously introduced an AI assistant plugin for small businesses, connecting Claude AI with platforms such as PayPal, QuickBooks, HubSpot, and Canva. The plugin can handle tasks including invoice generation, refund processing, month-end closing, and cash flow forecasting. All transactions require user confirmation and approval before execution. Anthropic has also developed 15 specialized skills targeting common pain points for small businesses.
Strategic Significance and Market Response PayPal's Chief Corporate Affairs Officer stated that the company is committed to helping small and medium-sized enterprises fully leverage their potential in an AI-driven economy. Anthropic believes the next wave of AI applications will be driven by local shops, individual entrepreneurs, and family businesses. Following the announcement of this partnership, PayPal's stock decline narrowed significantly.
