TENCENT has officially entered the competitive market for desktop AI agent tools with the launch of an internal test for its new product, WorkBuddy, starting today. Positioned as a full-scenario workplace AI agent desktop workstation suitable for all professional roles, WorkBuddy is described as an AI agent capable of actively working on a user's computer.
According to the announcement, WorkBuddy understands natural language, allowing users to assign tasks with simple verbal commands. It can autonomously plan and execute complex, multi-modal tasks directly on the local computer. The product was first made available for internal experience at TENCENT on January 19, where it has already served over 2,000 employees.
By accessing authorized folders on the computer, WorkBuddy performs various autonomous operations. These include automated batch file processing, generating documents, spreadsheets, and presentations, multi-modal content creation, in-depth data analysis, industry research, and parallel processing of multiple agent tasks. Additionally, it features advanced capabilities such as switching between multiple built-in models, integration with mainstream MCP Servers, Skills packages, and interception of high-risk commands.
Unlike chatbots such as ChatGPT, which are limited to conversation, WorkBuddy's core advantages lie in its ability to "understand human language," "think intelligently," and "genuinely operate local computer files." It functions as an AI colleague that can perform tasks similarly to a human coworker. The agent can handle complex, multi-step tasks and execute them on behalf of the user, rather than merely offering conversational suggestions. Users simply describe their needs in a sentence, and WorkBuddy autonomously completes the work, delivering verifiable results without requiring additional input.
Since its internal pilot on January 19, WorkBuddy has become the AI workstation for more than 2,000 TENCENT staff. It assists roles such as HR, administration, secretaries, operations, and sales by enhancing efficiency in scenarios including data processing and analysis, building local knowledge bases, content and copywriting creation, poster generation, and automated office tasks.
