Sep 09

August witnessed frequent activities among industry giants: Meta showcased multiple research-grade headsets at SIGGRAPH 2025, including ultra-wide field-of-view VR/MR headsets. The company also previewed an upcoming "major wearable device" announcement at the Connect conference, potentially referring to Meta's first consumer-grade AR glasses, Celeste (codenamed Hypernova). On the supply chain front, Goertek made significant moves by indirectly acquiring UK micro-display technology company Plessey and forming a strategic partnership with Sunny Optical, continuously strengthening its advantages in AR optical display technology.

Regarding new products, according to incomplete statistics, five hardware products were launched this month, including: the Vuzix LX1 warehouse operations AR glasses targeting enterprise customers, expected to hit the market by year-end; HTC's first AI glasses, VIVE Eagle, debuting in the Taiwan market; KTC AI interactive glasses from KTC officially launched for sale; vivo Vision Explorer Edition released, currently available for experience in 12 cities nationwide; and Dpvr VisionRay AI audio photo glasses, starting at 1,189 yuan after launch discounts and national subsidies.

In terms of investment and financing, 14 funding events occurred this month with a total financing amount of approximately 502 million yuan. The relatively modest total was primarily due to fewer large-scale financing events, with most funding rounds not disclosing specific amounts. Influenced by the AI glasses market, domestic AR sector capital market enthusiasm surged significantly. Core component sectors for AR glasses, including micro-display screen manufacturer JBD and optical component maker Zhige Technology, both secured hundred-million-yuan level financing.

Content-wise, the number of newly launched games and content decreased in August, totaling 56 releases, including 4 applications. Games were primarily focused on action and design categories, with action games accounting for 11 titles, approximately one-fifth of the total. Also noteworthy was the Gamescom trade fair in Cologne, Germany, where the largest XR-related exhibition area featured Meta's Quest 3 exclusive game "Deadpool VR," confirmed for exclusive release on Quest 3/3S on November 18. For domestic VR games, only "Dread Meridian" by Chengdu Cooca Digital appeared at the pre-show conference.

Policy-wise, 17 VR/AR-related policies were mentioned domestically in August, including one national policy with the remainder issued by local governments. Guangdong province had the highest number of VR/AR-related policies with four. Key policies to note include: the State Council's "Opinions on In-depth Implementation of 'AI+' Actions," which mentioned vigorously developing next-generation intelligent terminals including smart wearable devices; and the "Implementation Plan for Accelerating the Development of 'AI+Manufacturing' in Shanghai" issued by Shanghai's Economic and Information Commission and other departments, which similarly focused on intelligent terminals such as AI glasses and AR/MR glasses.
