Morning Briefing: Yunnan Update for April 1, 2026

Today is Wednesday, April 1, 2026. The Yunnan Provincial Meteorological Observatory forecasts that Kunming will experience showers turning to cloudy skies, with temperatures ranging from 11°C to 25°C. In regions such as Diqing Prefecture, Nujiang Prefecture, western Baoshan City, Dehong Prefecture, western Lincang City, and western Pu'er City, conditions will be cloudy with occasional light rain, including localized moderate rainfall. High-altitude areas in Diqing and Nujiang may see light snow or sleet. Zhaotong City, Qujing City, Wenshan Prefecture, eastern Honghe Prefecture, and eastern Lijiang City will have cloudy skies with scattered showers, while other areas will be sunny to partly cloudy.

Nationally, nine departments, including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, have jointly issued an action plan aiming to cultivate ten application fields with hundreds of millions of connections and fifteen with tens of millions of connections by 2028. The core industry scale of the Internet of Things is projected to exceed 3.5 trillion yuan. In March, the Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) stood at 50.4%, a 1.4 percentage point increase from the previous month, indicating an expansion in manufacturing activity. From January to February, China's software business revenue reached 2.1534 trillion yuan, marking an 11.7% year-on-year growth. Recently, the State Administration for Market Regulation launched a comprehensive initiative to enhance online food safety compliance, focusing on addressing key issues such as irregularities in live-streamed sales, inadequate verification of online business qualifications, and widespread false advertising.

In Yunnan-related news, the China-Laos Railway has transported over 70 million passengers since its inauguration. The domestic section has carried more than 57.1 million passengers, while the Laos section has served over 12.9 million. International passenger trains have operated more than 3,100 trips, facilitating travel for 780,000 passengers from over 120 countries and regions. Ning'er Hani and Yi Autonomous County in Pu'er City, Yunnan, has been shortlisted for national support in the 2026 Traditional Village Characteristic Protection Zone construction program, with a public review period ending on April 7, 2026. Additionally, five expressway service areas in Yunnan—Dushupu, Chuxiong, Mujishan, Huize, and Dabangiao—have been rated as top-tier service areas in the 2025 national assessment. The province has also initiated the "Pursuit·2026·Qingming Tribute to Heroes" campaign, organized by four departments including the Veterans Affairs Bureau, to commemorate martyrs through public tributes, youth education activities, online promotions, and support for martyrs' families.
