据华盛顿邮报报道，美国官员表示，五角大楼未来几天将向中东增派数千名士兵，特朗普政府试图以此向伊朗施压，迫使其达成一项可能结束数周冲突的协议，同时也在考虑如果脆弱的停火未能维持，可能发动更多打击或地面行动。据现任和前任官员称，正在进入该地区的部队包括在“乔治”号航空母舰及其护航舰上的约6000名士兵。另外，载有“拳师”号两栖戒备大队及其搭载的海军陆战队第11远征部队的约4200名士兵预计将于月底抵达。随着为期两周的停火将于4月22日到期，这些新增火力的到来很可能与已在中东的美国军舰会合。这些部队将加入五角大楼此前称参与对抗伊朗行动的约5万名人员。
