Jiangsu Hengrui Pharmaceuticals Co.,Ltd. (SHA: 600276) has announced receiving the Drug Clinical Trial Approval Notice from the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) for its HRS-4729 injection, a drug developed internally by the company and its subsidiary Fujian Shengdi Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. Clinical trials are set to begin shortly.
The HRS-4729 injection is a multi-peptide drug independently developed by the company, functioning as a triple agonist targeting the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R), glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide receptor (GIPR), and glucagon receptor (GCGR). By activating these receptors, the drug is designed to suppress appetite, delay gastric emptying, enhance insulin sensitivity, and promote energy expenditure, leading to weight loss, blood sugar control, and improved glucose and lipid metabolism, ultimately aiming to treat type 2 diabetes.
Currently, a Phase II clinical study for the drug's use in weight reduction is also in progress. No similar drugs have been approved for marketing either domestically or globally. As of the latest report, the cumulative research and development investment in the HRS-4729 injection project stands at approximately RMB 81.6 million (unaudited).
