French prosecutors revealed on November 2 that four suspects—three men and one woman—involved in the major heist at the Louvre Museum are currently in custody and facing charges. Most are repeat offenders, with two having prior convictions for another crime together.

On November 1, prosecutors charged a 37-year-old man with organized theft and accused a 38-year-old woman of complicity. Prosecutor Laure Beccuau stated that the 37-year-old suspect's DNA traces were found on the lift used in the robbery outside the Louvre. Records show he has 11 prior convictions, 10 of which were for theft.

Investigators also discovered that the 37-year-old suspect and a 39-year-old male suspect, charged on October 29, had been convicted together in a separate theft case in 2015. The 39-year-old has 15 prior convictions, including two for theft. He and a 34-year-old man were arrested on October 25 and charged on the 29th. Later that evening, police arrested five more suspects, three of whom were released after questioning, leaving the 37-year-old man and 38-year-old woman among those charged.

The 34-year-old suspect, an Algerian national residing in France since 2010, also has a criminal record. After the Louvre robbery, he attempted to flee to Algeria by plane but was intercepted and arrested by police.

On October 19, four masked individuals used a lift to break into the Louvre from an exterior balcony, stealing nine pieces of jewelry within minutes before escaping. Among the four suspects in custody, three men are believed to have participated in the heist, with the first two arrested accused of entering the museum to commit the robbery.

While one of the stolen items—a crown belonging to Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III—has been recovered, the whereabouts of the remaining pieces remain unknown. Prosecutor Beccuau did not disclose whether investigators have made progress in tracking down the missing artifacts.
