US Senators Probe Apple, Meta and Other Major Companies Over Foreign Worker Hiring Practices

Deep News
Yesterday

Democratic Senator Dick Durbin and Republican Senator Chuck Grassley have sent letters to ten major corporations demanding explanations for why they have conducted multiple rounds of layoffs targeting American workers while simultaneously submitting thousands of H-1B visa applications for foreign employees.

The companies receiving these congressional inquiries include Amazon, Apple, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Deloitte, Google, JPMorgan Chase, Meta, Microsoft, Tata Consultancy Services, and Walmart.

In their letter to Google CEO Sundar Pichai, the senators questioned, "Why is Google still hiring foreign tech workers when hundreds of thousands of American tech workers have been laid off over the past few years?"

The correspondence requires all companies to provide responses no later than October 10.
