According to media reports, on October 3, Qilian County in Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, received over 100,000 tourists, with all hotels and guesthouses fully booked.

From the night of October 3 to the early hours of October 4, Qilian County arranged public welfare beds for nearly 500 tourists who had no accommodation. Many tourists posted messages of gratitude online, praising Qilian's culture and tourism services. One tourist recounted that after arriving in Qilian County on October 3, they could not find any accommodation on major platforms. Later, they came across an announcement from Qilian's culture and tourism authorities online and were arranged that same night to stay free of charge at Qilian County Nationalities Middle School. "Four people to a room, and brand-new bedding was distributed on-site." It rained in Qilian that day, and it even snowed on the mountain tops, with nighttime temperatures dropping to -4 degrees Celsius. Some tourists said that after arriving at the school, they quickly completed registration and were housed separately by gender, going from "homeless" to staying in a heated dormitory in just half an hour.

In a video circulating online on October 3, Feng Lingling, Party Secretary and Director of the Qilian County Culture, Sports, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau, was seen making beds and carrying luggage for tourists in a student dormitory. On the afternoon of October 4, Feng Lingling said in an interview that because tourist numbers during this year's National Day holiday exceeded even the regular peak season, she spent both October 2 and October 3 working on the front lines at the temporary public welfare accommodation point in the school dormitories. Feng Lingling stated that starting from around 5:00 to 6:00 PM on October 2, they began receiving reports of tourists unable to find accommodation. Following pre-existing contingency plans, they contacted the education bureau and the school that same evening, opened the dormitories, and the entire bureau staff was mobilized. In the dormitories, Feng Lingling led staff members in carefully packing up and organizing all the students' belongings, then laid out brand-new bedding obtained from the emergency management department on the beds. "When tourists checked in, we specifically reminded each one of them not to disturb the children's belongings. Based on what we've seen, the vast majority of tourists have been very well-behaved."

According to a staff member from the Qilian County Culture and Tourism Bureau office, no reports have been received of damaged or missing items in the student dormitories. "The day before yesterday, I made beds with my colleagues, and yesterday I helped with registration," Feng Lingling said. During holidays, they are in a state of no rest. During this National Day long holiday, matters including scenic area safety guarantees, large-scale event sites, and handling complaints all required on-site personnel, so staff were spread thin. On the night of October 3, Feng Lingling and other staff members worked until about 2:40 AM on October 4 before returning home to rest.

Feng Lingling said that Qilian County is a county town of 50,000 people, and based on an estimated traffic flow of 35,000 vehicles, over 100,000 people poured in on October 3. Some may have simply passed through, but even if only a small portion stayed, the county's accommodation capacity still could not contain them. Mr. Chen, a staff member from the Qilian County Culture, Sports, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau office, said that from 5:30 PM to midnight on October 3, they received over 400 phone calls in the office, mostly from tourists looking for accommodation. "For nearly 7 hours, there was not a single moment of rest."

According to reports, Qilian County's peak tourism season is generally July and August each year. Due to the popularity of the local Route 9 Highway on the internet this year, a large number of tourists were attracted to visit during the National Day long holiday. On the morning of October 4, Qilian's culture and tourism authorities issued the latest notice: On October 3, Qilian County saw nearly 35,000 vehicles, and all of the county's more than 400 hotels and guesthouses were fully booked, with public welfare beds accommodating nearly 500 people. Due to limited beds, tourists encountering accommodation difficulties are reminded to promptly call service numbers 0970-8672109, 8676625, or 8676879 to reserve public welfare beds or adjust their itineraries.
