Japanese Government Bond Yields Fall Across All Maturities as Yen Weakens Among G10 Currencies

The entire yield curve for Japanese government bonds moved lower, while the yen weakened against most of the currencies of the ten major developed economies. The euro rose as much as 0.5% against the yen to 177.87. The dollar gained 0.3% against the yen to 158.38, among the largest advances across all G10 currency pairs. The pair has been consolidating below its 200-day moving average since last week, with key resistance currently at 158.54. Macro Hive strategist Viresh Kanabar said the yen's weakness may stem from Thursday's securities flow data from Japan's Ministry of Finance: domestic Japanese investors continued to net buy overseas assets, with no repatriation flows materializing as the market had widely expected. The dollar fell against most G10 currencies, U.S. Treasury yields largely held overnight declines, and oil prices retreated.
