BLS Plans Not To Release Economic Data During Govt Shutdown

Lawmakers are heading toward a federal government shutdown that could delay critical economic data, including the Sept. jobs report due Oct. 3 and the consumer price index.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics contingency plan calls for halting data collection and releases if funding lapses. Fed officials, who cut rates in September, face their next meeting on Oct. 28-29 with limited data, complicating policy decisions amid economic uncertainty.
