Starbucks Reportedly Weighing Options for Japanese Operations, Including Stake Sale and IPO

According to multiple informed sources, Starbucks is evaluating strategic options for its business in Japan, which include a potential sale of a stake. This follows the company's previous divestment of a majority stake in its China operations.

The sources indicate that the American coffee chain giant has held preliminary discussions with investment banks to help determine the best course of action for its Japanese business. The individuals requested anonymity as the deliberations are private. Japan represents one of Starbucks' largest markets, with approximately 2,100 stores, the majority of which are directly operated by the company.

Some of the sources suggested that a stake sale could be valued between 400 billion and 500 billion yen and might attract interest from other industry players and private equity firms. They also noted that an initial public offering for the Japanese business is another option under consideration.

The sources added that these considerations are still in the early stages, and no final decision has been made.
