JPMorgan: Standard Chartered's 15% ROTE Target for 2026 Would Be a Positive Surprise

JPMorgan has issued a research report assigning Standard Chartered (02888) a target price of HK$265 with an "Overweight" rating. The bank anticipates that market attention will center on the company's management guidance for the 2026 return on tangible equity (ROTE) and total shareholder returns. According to the report, if the ROTE guidance for the 2026 fiscal year remains stable or reaches approximately 15%, it would be viewed as a positive surprise. JPMorgan forecasts that the group's fourth-quarter revenue growth will be flat year-on-year. Net interest income is expected to be largely unchanged sequentially but to decline by a high-single-digit percentage compared to the same period last year, which will be offset by strong year-on-year growth in non-net interest income.
