ByteDance has recently established a new first-tier division named AI Data and Security, which operates on the same level as departments such as Seed, Flow, and Douyin, according to a report from 36Kr.
The new division is led by Adam Wang (Wang Yinglei), who previously headed the TikTok platform responsibility team and served as the head of TikTok's live streaming operations. The report indicates that the AI Data and Security department evolved partly from Global Data, a data team founded in 2023 by Fu Yue (known as Yuyi), a founding member of TikTok, which originally had around 100 employees.
Beyond incorporating Global Data, the AI Data and Security division has also integrated several previously scattered AI data units, including the group's central data platform DMC and the AI data platform AIDP, which was under the Flow team. According to multiple sources cited in the report, the consolidation and formal establishment of the AI Data and Security department began in early June 2026. Because the merger involves multiple departments with overlapping business functions, ByteDance is currently reorganizing its structure and optimizing its workforce.
The newly integrated division is expected to become a massive data team spanning from the foundational models to business teams. Its core mission is to provide cross-modal data services for all of ByteDance's large-scale models. The team's responsibilities cover the entire data production process, including standard setting, sourcing and procurement, data synthesis and cleaning, and quality evaluation.
As of the time of publication, ByteDance has not yet responded to these reports.
