加拿大虽是美国最大的进口铝供应国，却非唯一来源。美国铝业首席执行官威廉·奥普林格强调，只要对其他国家的进口铝维持50%关税，供应商为弥补关税成本将继续抬高附加费。目前铝材采购的综合性附加费——涵盖关税、运输、仓储等成本——约为每吨2100美元。该公司表示，这笔费用远超其从加拿大工厂向美国客户运输铝材所需支付的关税额。该附加费还需叠加伦敦金属交易所每吨3100美元的铝基准价。
"关税成本正被全额转嫁给客户。"奥普林格在分析师电话会议中坦言。关税议题预计将成为今年晚些时候美加墨三国贸易协定重新谈判的核心内容。
