Unity Group Holdings International Limited (Unity Group) announced that on 30 April 2026 its Malaysian subsidiary, Synergy ESCO (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, signed an energy performance contract with Mydin Mohamed Holdings Berhad (MYDIN), one of the country’s largest home-grown retail chains.
The project will upgrade about 210,000 lighting units in 21 MYDIN malls with ultra-high-efficiency lighting solutions, to be rolled out in phases to minimise operational disruption.
Key financial metrics • Total electricity cost savings estimated at RM138.00 million (approximately HKD276.00 million) over a 10-year term. • Lighting energy consumption expected to fall by up to 78 %, translating into about 1,648,635 kWh of monthly savings and roughly 197,836,166 kWh over the contract period.
Environmental impact • Monthly carbon-dioxide emissions projected to drop by around 1,276 tonnes, cumulating to about 153,125 tonnes over 10 years. • The emissions reduction equates to preserving approximately 3.8 million trees during the same period.
Strategic implications The deal marks Unity Group’s largest retail-sector retrofit in Malaysia, demonstrating the scalability of Synergy ESCO’s integrated energy-efficiency solutions and supporting national initiatives aimed at lowering Scope 2 emissions. Unity Group will provide further updates on project progress as appropriate.
