US Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated on Sunday that the American naval escort of tanker vessels through the Strait of Hormuz is vital to maintaining crude oil flows along that critical waterway, signaling that the operation is unlikely to conclude anytime soon. "We are assisting a significant number of ships in transiting, but this certainly requires the cooperation of the US military," Wright remarked during a television appearance. "The Iranians continue to stir up trouble, yet the US Navy is prevailing in this engagement."

Speaking across a series of Sunday interviews, Wright noted that daily oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz now exceed 9 million barrels. He pointed out that regional petroleum flows have rebounded to "two-thirds or even more of the pre-conflict level" as additional crude and refined products move via pipelines and alternative routes. Last week, Wright disclosed that roughly 17 million barrels traversed the strait in a single Monday.

When pressed on whether these naval operations represent a "new normal" for the strait, Wright acknowledged, "Well, that is indeed the case today." However, he added, "I believe other nations will eventually join us in advancing this effort. Of course, trade is absolutely essential to the world. This should not rest solely on American shoulders, but until Iran changes its stance or its government, we have no choice but to manage the situation this way."

Wright declined to specify which countries might participate in the operations, emphasizing that for now, the US Navy remains the backbone. "Yes, it is the US Navy that is ensuring oil flows smoothly outward," he said on the program. "We hope Iran will cease its actions, but we are steadily eroding their capabilities, and we are learning and improving at defending against their attacks with each passing day, so this is a losing battle for Iran."
