Meta Platforms, Inc. is investing over $1 billion to construct a data center in Wisconsin, US, designed to support artificial intelligence operations. This marks the company's latest commitment to critical infrastructure amid the rapidly advancing AI race.

The 700,000-square-foot facility will be located in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, situated north of Madison and Milwaukee. Meta stated on Wednesday that the project is expected to become operational by 2027 and will create approximately 100 full-time jobs.

Meta announced a partnership with local utility company Alliant Energy, pledging an additional $200 million investment in energy infrastructure to support the data center, including upgrades to transmission lines and networks.

Reports earlier in April had already indicated Meta's plans for a Wisconsin-based data center.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg has vowed to make massive investments in AI infrastructure, repeatedly emphasizing to investors that he believes it is better to "overspend than underspend" on AI development.

Zuckerberg and other executives have stated that the company plans to invest $600 billion in the US by 2028, with the majority allocated to chips, data centers, and other hardware. Currently, Meta is constructing gigawatt-scale data centers across multiple states, including Ohio, Texas, and Louisiana.

Company executives describe this strategy as front-loading computing capacity to prepare for its goal of achieving "superintelligence"—AI capable of matching or surpassing human performance in numerous tasks.
