Ride-hailing company Lyft, Inc. has received regulatory approval from European authorities to complete its acquisition of European taxi application Freenow.
Starting Thursday, both companies will begin directing users to download each other's applications. Lyft, Inc. passengers visiting any of the 180 European cities where Freenow operates will see prompts to download the Freenow app, while Freenow users in the United States or Canada will receive prompts to install Lyft.
As the two companies plan to enable drivers to operate on both platforms simultaneously, users will not need to switch applications when traveling. Freenow currently employs approximately 600 staff members, and Lyft, Inc. stated it has no plans for layoffs following the acquisition.
