According to informed sources, OpenAI is building a new code hosting platform designed to compete directly with Microsoft's GitHub. Reports indicate that OpenAI engineers have experienced multiple service outages on GitHub in recent months, preventing normal use, which ultimately prompted the company to develop its own solution. It is noted that the project is still in its early stages and is months away from completion. Employees involved have considered eventually offering this code repository product to OpenAI's customers as a paid service. At the time of reporting, OpenAI, GitHub, and Microsoft had not immediately responded to requests for comment. Analysis suggests that if OpenAI does bring this product to market, it would mark a bold step for the creator of ChatGPT, putting it in direct competition with its major shareholder, Microsoft. In its latest funding round, OpenAI reached a valuation of $840 billion. Technology giants and SoftBank, led by Masayoshi Son, participated in this massive funding round of $110 billion, indicating that despite recent market concerns about valuation bubbles, the investment race in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector continues to intensify.
