Positive Memory Market Outlook and Increased AI Infrastructure Investment May Lead to Revaluation of Samsung's Strategic Value

Analysts have given positive assessments of Samsung Electronics' AI infrastructure investment. KB Securities stated that the investment in Helix, a US AI infrastructure company, will help Samsung expand its data center demand channels beyond memory chip supply.

On the 29th, Samsung Electronics announced that it will invest a total of $1 billion in Helix together with affiliates including Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, Samsung Life Insurance, and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance; among them, Samsung Electronics will contribute $500 million. Helix is led by Adam Selipsky, former CEO of Amazon Web Services (AWS), and its business direction is to integrate data center operations, power, and network infrastructure.

KB Securities said: "This investment is not merely a pure financial stake; its core significance lies in Samsung Electronics directly entering the upstream segment of AI data center demand."

The outlook for the memory chip market is also positive. KB Securities expects that DRAM average prices will rise 15%-20% quarter-on-quarter in the third and fourth quarters of this year, and will still maintain double-digit growth in the first quarter of next year. KB Securities stated that the production capacity of the world's top three DRAM manufacturers, including Samsung Electronics, is basically fully booked through 2028.

Institutional forecasts suggest that demand growth driven by AI infrastructure expansion, combined with supply constraints, will strengthen manufacturers' pricing power and drive the market to reassess the strategic value of Samsung Electronics' memory business.
