IonQ Inc. shares surged 8.19% in pre-market trading, building on optimism after the company reported what its CEO called "the strongest quarter" in its history. The quantum computing firm posted second-quarter revenue of $80.1 million, a nearly fourfold increase from a year earlier, handily beating analyst expectations of approximately $66.5 million.

The outsized revenue growth was driven by global deployments of its IonQ Tempo quantum computers and robust cloud utilization. Encouragingly, the company raised its full-year 2026 revenue guidance to a range of $280 million to $290 million, up from a prior outlook of $260 million to $270 million and ahead of the consensus estimate of $268.6 million. IonQ also continues to target 100% organic revenue growth for the year.

Investor sentiment was further buoyed by a series of strategic developments. The company recently completed its $1.8 billion acquisition of chip maker SkyWater Technology, bringing semiconductor foundries in-house and strengthening its supply chain. Additionally, IonQ announced a $28 million contract extension with DARPA to deliver 125 optical atomic clocks, and its space division was awarded a radar commercial augmentation contract by the National Reconnaissance Office. These wins underscore the company’s expanding footprint in both government and commercial sectors.
