Internet security company Cloudflare (NET.US) experienced a sudden global outage, causing widespread inaccessibility to numerous websites, including major applications like X and ChatGPT. Cloudflare has since announced that some services have begun to recover, though customers may still encounter higher-than-normal error rates as repairs continue. At the time of reporting, Cloudflare's pre-market shares fell 4% on Tuesday.
The company stated on its system status page: "We are aware of and investigating an issue affecting multiple customers, including widespread 500 errors, as well as outages in the Cloudflare dashboard and API. We are working to assess the full impact and resolve the issue. Further updates will follow."
Other affected applications included PayPal, Uber, and League of Legends. The root cause of the problem remains unclear, though Cloudflare noted that scheduled maintenance was planned for today at its San Diego data center.
