BOCOM 2026 Interim Report: Net Profit Up 4.04 % to RMB 47.87 Billion, NIM Improves to 1.23 %

Bank of Communications Co., Ltd. (BOCOM) reported net profit attributable to shareholders of RMB 47.87 billion for the six months ended 30 June 2026, a 4.04 % increase year-on-year. Net operating income rose 6.77 % to RMB 142.54 billion, driven by an 8.62 % gain in net interest income to RMB 92.59 billion as net interest margin widened by 2 basis points to 1.23 %.

Total assets expanded 4.58 % since end-2025 to RMB 16.26 trillion, while loans advanced grew 4.01 % to RMB 9.49 trillion and customer deposits climbed 6.53 % to RMB 9.92 trillion. Subsidiaries and overseas branches contributed 13.98 % of group profit, up 3.67 percentage points from a year earlier.

Asset quality remained stable with the non-performing loan ratio at 1.30 %, compared with 1.28 % at end-2025; provision coverage stood at 203.80 %. Annualised return on average assets held steady at 0.61 %, while annualised ROAE softened to 8.09 % from 9.16 %.

Capitalisation stayed solid: the common-equity Tier 1 ratio was 11.25 %, Tier 1 ratio 12.46 % and overall capital adequacy ratio 16.00 %. The leverage ratio reached 7.12 %. Cost-to-income ratio improved by 2.47 percentage points to 27.47 %.

The board proposes an interim cash dividend of RMB 0.168 per share (inclusive of tax), totalling RMB 14.85 billion and representing a payout of 31.0 % of first-half earnings. The plan awaits shareholder approval.

Operational highlights included a 9.67 % rise in green loan balances to RMB 1.04 trillion, a 5.40 % increase in inclusive small- and micro-enterprise loans, and a 70.83 % surge in cross-border trade financing. The bank continued to prioritise technology, digitalisation and risk management while advancing its “five priorities” of finance—technology, green, inclusive, ageing and digital finance.
