As summer draws to a close, what were Beijing's most popular foods this year? Which attractions were the hottest destinations? On August 26, DouYin Life Services released the "Beijing 2025 Summer Consumption Data Report" (hereinafter referred to as "the Report"), showcasing summer consumption trends in the capital.
The Report reveals that from June 1 to August 15, Beijing's DouYin group buying consumption orders increased by 40% year-on-year, with sales revenue growing by 80% compared to the same period last year. Over 10,000 local Beijing merchants offered summer discount group buying packages, with more than 37 million users choosing to purchase vouchers on DouYin for future in-store consumption.
Live streaming and short videos have become important channels for merchants' online operations and users' online voucher purchases. On August 16, during DouYin Life Services' Food and Entertainment Day, nearly 3,000 Beijing merchants and over 1,600 influencers broadcast live to offer benefits to Beijing users. Celebrities including Zhu Xiaotian and Ya Dan'er appeared in live streams at characteristic Beijing restaurants, showing viewers the dining environment and introducing DouYin group buying discounts. Statistics show that Beijing consumers placed orders worth over 200 million yuan in a single day.
The Report indicates that during the hot summer, shopping districts became popular destinations for families, couples, and other groups seeking relief from the heat. Beijing's summer shopping district group buying orders increased by 16% month-on-month, with sales revenue rising 22% compared to last year. Popular shopping areas included Sanlitun Taikoo Li, Huaxi LIVE·Wukesong, Beijing Capital Outlets, Wanda Plaza (Tongzhou), Beijing Heshenghui, Solana, Xidan Joy City, and Beijing LIVAT.
Fast food and snacks, beverages, Western cuisine, regional dishes, and hot pot emerged as the most popular food categories. Additionally, summer "Beijing tourism" was booming. Data shows that Beijing scenic spots and attractions saw DouYin group buying orders increase by 41% year-on-year, with sales revenue growing by 105%. Among these, educational tourism group buying orders surged by 93% year-on-year and skyrocketed nearly 49-fold month-on-month.
Beijing Universal Resort, Beijing Wildlife Park, POP MART City Park, Badaling Great Wall, Beijing Aquarium, and Happy Water Cube were among the top 10 hottest Beijing attractions during summer.
Influencers remain important assistants for merchant promotion, providing dining and entertainment guides for countless users. This summer, local Beijing food bloggers including @Waste Goes to Restaurants, @Li Ran, @Food Master Brother, and @Sister Jiali became netizens' "dining companions" and "entertainment companions" through live broadcasts and short videos.
Furthermore, visiting parks and scenic spots, enjoying theme parks, and attending concerts became popular ways to beat the heat. Besides local Beijing users, visitors from Langfang, Baoding, Tianjin, and other cities became major consumer forces for Beijing tourism.
From July 1 to August 31, DouYin Life Services launched Beijing's "Summer Food Festival" activity, partnering with dining merchants in multiple Beijing shopping districts. Through major shopping district events and million-yuan food voucher packages, the platform supported merchants' summer operations while providing users with abundant dining choices and stimulating summer consumption.
On August 7, under the guidance of Dongcheng District Commerce Bureau and Dongcheng District Culture and Tourism Bureau, the activity invited over 100 merchants to witness the "Golden Street Living Room and DouYin Life Services Dongcheng Summer Food Festival Launch Ceremony."
A representative from DouYin Life Services explained that this summer, heat-relief economy and family-oriented economy continued to heat up. The platform's "Summer Food Festival" activity encouraged merchants to jointly offer exceptional group buying discounts, effectively boosting Beijing's summer consumption. Moving forward, the platform will continue launching diverse activities around festivals like Qixi Festival and National Day to support consumption.
For example, during the upcoming Qixi Festival, users who consume through DouYin at designated stores such as Russian Kitchen (Chaoyang Joy City) and Shuimu Jintang (Changying) can participate in "Redemption Rewards" activities to receive carefully prepared rose gifts.
