The annual medical insurance payment period for flexible workers in Nanchang City for 2026 has commenced. Participants are enrolled in both basic medical insurance and critical illness insurance simultaneously. Currently, flexible workers can pay their medical insurance premiums through several channels, including the Jiangxi Provincial Taxation Bureau's WeChat official account, Alipay (Ganfutong), or POS machines at local tax service halls.
Flexible workers who voluntarily enroll in employee medical insurance are required to make a single, annual payment for the full year; monthly payment options are not permitted. Benefit eligibility will be implemented in accordance with relevant regulations. Individuals whose employee medical insurance was terminated and who subsequently enroll as flexible workers can make a one-time payment covering the period from the month following termination until December 31st of the current year. Those who have already enrolled in and paid for resident medical insurance for the current year are not permitted to switch to employee medical insurance under a flexible worker status mid-year.
For individuals transferring their employee medical insurance coverage (including those enrolled as flexible workers), if the interruption in premium payment prior to the transfer is three months or less, they may pay the overdue basic medical insurance premiums according to the rules of the new jurisdiction. After completing the back payment, there will be no waiting period for benefits; coverage will take effect in the month of payment, and benefits for the interruption period may be claimed retroactively as per regulations. If the payment interruption exceeds three months, basic medical insurance benefits will be subject to standard rules, including a three-month waiting period.
Individuals who have been continuously enrolled in basic medical insurance for two years or more, and who switch between employee medical insurance (including flexible worker enrollment) and resident medical insurance due to changes in employment status, are also subject to these rules regarding payment interruptions. An interruption of three months or less allows for back payment without a waiting period, while an interruption exceeding three months incurs a standard three-month waiting period for benefits.
