On September 28, it was learned from the Xiangjiang Group that the Changsha Pingtang General Aviation Airport project is steadily advancing according to its construction milestones, with the terminal area now having entered the pile cap construction phase while the airfield area is simultaneously carrying out site surveying and clearing operations.
The project is located in Pingtang Subdistrict of the Xiangjiang New Area, on the southwestern side of the Dawang Mountain Tourism Resort, approximately 4 kilometers from the west bank of the Xiang River, bordered by the Changtan West Expressway to the east and Tanzhou Avenue to the west.
The project covers a total land area of approximately 468 mu and is classified as an A1-category general aviation airport with a 2B airfield rating, with plans to build a 1,200-meter runway.
Construction is mainly divided into two major sections: the airfield area and the terminal area. The airfield area, built to 2B standards, will include not only the main runway but also supporting taxiways, aprons, navigation aid lighting, firefighting facilities, perimeter fencing, and patrol roads. The terminal area will feature a comprehensive terminal building, hangar, power center, and fire rescue station, along with fully equipped public utility infrastructure including water supply and drainage, power supply, communications, internal roads, parking lots, and landscaping.
Since construction began in February this year, the project has completed full-site vegetation clearing and forest land clearing, and all temporary support facilities such as temporary construction fencing, vehicle washing stations, temporary site offices, temporary water and electricity, and access roads have been put in place.
Currently, pond dredging and backfilling within the terminal area have been completed, pile foundation work for the terminal building, hangar, and power center has fully wrapped up, and pile cap construction is now underway. The airfield area portion completed its contract bidding in July, and ground surveying and site clearing work are currently being carried out.
As an important aviation transportation facility in the Dawang Mountain area, the completed Pingtang General Aviation Airport will further improve the region's general aviation infrastructure and fill gaps in the comprehensive transportation system.
