Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has pushed back against President Donald Trump's proposal to send $5,000 checks to Americans if Republicans hold onto their seats in the midterm elections, expressing concerns that such a cash infusion would only exacerbate inflationary pressures.

The Republican governor, known for his longstanding advocacy of strict federal budget controls, argued on Thursday that the president or Congress should instead consider tax cuts as a more prudent form of fiscal relief, rather than pursuing a plan projected to cost the United States more than $1 trillion. He warned that the initiative would bring "more debt and more inflation."

DeSantis emphasized that a tax-based approach would provide economic stimulus without adding to the nation's fiscal burden, contrasting it with the check distribution plan that he believes would ultimately harm American households by eroding purchasing power.
